eology GmbH, one of the leading agencies in the field of search engine marketing, has announced a significant milestone in its company history: the founders and managing directors Daniel Unger and Axel Scheuering have acquired further company shares through a management buyout. They now hold a total of 95 % of eology GmbH.
15 years of innovation and success
The step comes just in time for the company’s 15th anniversary and marks another highlight in the success story of the company, which today generates an annual turnover of over 12 million euros and employs around 100 people. Well-known companies such as Telekom, Lexware, mister*lady, EDEKA and Knauf rely on the company’s expertise and customized solutions.
The eology story began in 2009, when the two business informatics students took part in the global Google Online Marketing Challenge. They came in an impressive second place among the “Final 15”, beating over 2,000 teams from all continents. This success led to numerous inquiries from interested companies, which in turn led to the founding of what is now eology GmbH. In 2010, a company from the IT sector acquired a stake in the company – a stake that has now been dissolved as part of the management buyout.
“While there is currently a lot of pressure in the agency sector with regard to mergers and acquisitions, and many agencies are joining large networks, we are consciously going in the opposite direction: the MBO gives us more entrepreneurial freedom and allows us to shape our own future,” explains Daniel Unger, outlining the motivation behind the takeover.
Axel Scheuering adds: “On the one hand, we are now in a position to continue developing our business at a leisurely pace. On the other hand, we can make decisions much more quickly, which will certainly not be a disadvantage in an increasingly dynamic market environment.”
Management buy-out as a strong signal in challenging times
The timing of the management buyout is particularly noteworthy: at a time when the digital marketing industry is in a state of upheaval due to AI and LLMs and many agencies are struggling with the difficult economic situation in Germany, eology has seen steady revenue growth. “Above all, we see the share purchase as a commitment to our team, on whose dedication and loyalty we now count more than ever,” the managing directors emphasize.
With this takeover, the founders are sending a clear signal for the future and underlining their long-term commitment to the company and its employees.
